On October 20, 2003, Kirk Jones, a 40 year old native from Canton Michigan became the first person to plummet over the Falls without a flotation device and survive. Jones dropped 175 feet and miraculously emerged with only minor cuts and bruises. He was taken to hospital and was later charged with illegally performing a stunt and was fined $2300.00 from Canadian officials.
