Peter DeBernardi and Jeffery Petkovich two friends, would go over the falls together and claim the title of the first people to go over the Falls in the same barrel. On September 28th, 1989 they went over the Horseshoe Falls in a ten foot steel barrel. Once over the falls they floated for several minutes in the waters below before being pulled ashore with grappling hooks. They emerged with relatively minor injuries and were charged with performing an illegal stunt under the Niagara Parks Act.
