In an attempt to promote awareness about homelessness Robert Overcracker attempted to go over the Horseshoe Falls on a Jet Ski on October 1, 1995. Overcracker, a 39 year old from California, launched his jet ski on the Canadian side without incident. He raced towards the brink of the Horseshoe Falls where he attempted to release a rocket propelled parachute, however it failed to eject and he plunged to his death. His body was recovered by the staff of the Maid of the Mist.
